Autumn's first significant cold spell in Georgia took overnight temperatures
down into the 30s and 40s in mid-October. Cleveland reported a low of 32 degrees.
A few stations in the northeast mountains also bottomed out close to the freezing
mark.
in November...
Another cold front pushed temperatures lower on the 6th and 7th. Freezing
temperatures were reported at several locations across the extreme northern
part of Georgia... and as far south as Cedartown. The next surge of cold
air occurred on the 16th and 17th... resulting in temperatures falling to
the freezing mark in many areas that had not already seen the first freeze
of the season. Readings as low as 30 degrees occurred as far south as
Abbeville in Wilcox County. However...as of Nov 24 there were still
a few locations yet to experience the season's first freeze...
including the cities of Atlanta and Columbus. The next cold snap hit during the
Thanksgiving holiday weekend and took several another degree or two lower for
the season. However...a few locations...including Atlanta and Columbus still
failed to officially dip down to the freezing mark.
in December...
a prolonged outbreak of cold weather hit around the 14th, peaked on the
20th and 21st, and eased on the last couple of days of the month. Between
the 14th and 29th, minimum temperatures across most of North Georgia
were below freezing every night. Atlanta and Columbus finally experienced
their first freeze of the season on the 14th.
The map below shows the lowest reported temperatures so far this season.
