MARCH-APRIL 2004 - DRIEST EVER IN PARTS OF GEORGIA

Much of Georgia continues to experience below-normal rainfall. The two-month period from March 1 to April 30 was the driest March through April period ever recorded at Athens and Macon...the 3rd driest at Columbus...and the 5th driest at Atlanta.

March-April rainfall totals...

Athens...: Total... 1.92 inches. Old record was 2.85 inches in 1921.
Macon...: Total... 2.14 inches. Old record was 2.39 inches in 1985.
Columbus...: Total... 3.70 inches. Driest March-April period was in 1967 with 2.26 inches.
Atlanta...: Total... 3.85 inches. Driest March-April period was in 1915 with 2.36 inches.
