APRIL 2004 - MAY BE ONE OF THE DRIEST EVER IN ATHENS
updated 4/30/04

Much of Georgia continues to experience below-normal rainfall. Rainfall has been particularly sparse around Athens, where less than one inch (only 0.87 inch) had fallen through 4 pm on April 30. If Athens receives no additional rain before midnight tonight (April 30), April 2004 will be recorded as the 4th driest ever at that location. The 8 driest Aprils on record are:

  1. 1915 with 0.08 inch
  2. 1950 with 0.69 inch
  3. 1976 with 0.74 inch
  4. 1987 with 0.89 inch
  5. 1942 with 1.00 inch
  6. 1992 with 1.08 inch
  7. 1941 with 1.20 inch
  8. 1986 with 1.22 inch

Although Atlanta, Columbus, and Macon have also experienced below-normal rainfall this month, there has been enough rain to avoid threatening to set new records.
