NEAR RECORD RAINFALL FOR MAY/JUNE 2003

...Fourth Wettest May/June Period on Record in Columbus...
It was a very wet May and June in much of North and Middle Georgia. In fact, the official
rainfall in Atlanta was 17.28 inches for the two-month period. This came within 0.06 inches
of the all-time record. ATLANTA TOTAL RAINFALL RANK YEAR OF OCCURRENCE 17.34 1 1991 17.28 2 2003 * 15.76 3 1989 15.58 4 1912 14.89 5 1886 MACON TOTAL RAINFALL RANK YEAR OF OCCURRENCE 21.12 1 1923 15.59 2 2003 * 13.93 3 1957 12.22 4 1912 11.77 5 2001 COLUMBUS TOTAL RAINFALL RANK YEAR OF OCCURRENCE 17.45 1 1967 15.44 2 1987 14.61 3 1959 14.29 4 2003 * 12.41 5 1966 FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE ALONE... in Columbus - it was the 3rd wettest ever recorded ( 8.77 versus the record of 10.83 in 1967 ) in Macon - it was the 2nd wettest ever recorded ( 9.77 versus the record of 9.91 in 1923 ) in Atlanta - it was the 10th wettest ever recorded ( 7.34 versus the record of 11.21 in 1912 )
