Local Cooperative Weather Observer Honored

Bruce Underwood and WGSV owner Kerry Jackson Receive Award For 50 Years of Service

The National Weather Service Cooperative Observer network consists of more than 11,000 volunteers around the country who report daily meteorological information such as temperature and precipitation. On July 10th, 2008, Mr. Bruce Underwood and WGSV/WTWX station owner Mr. Kerry Jackson were recognized for 50 years of service. Mr. Bruce Underwood rising before 4:00 AM each morning, has been reporting temperature and rainfall data recorded at WGSV in Guntersville since May 10, 1958. Radio station WGSV-AM/WTWX-FM has carried on the tradition of recording important temperature and rainfall information that began when a COOP site was first established in Guntersville February 1, 1900.
