All of the staff at WFO Lake Charles would like to welcome Andy Patrick, our new meteorologist-in-charge, to the office!

Andy replaces Steve Rinard, former meteorologist-in-charge, who retired earlier this year.  Andy was previously the meteorologist-in-charge of WFO Brownsville TX for 3 years.  Welcome to Lake Charles, Andy!

On May 1st of this year, Mr. Royne Fontenot (pronounced Ronnie Fawn-teh-no) will have completed 49 years of Cooperative Observations for the National Weather Service, and will begin his 50th year of being a Cooperative Weather Observer.

Mr. Fontenot started recording weather observations for the Weather Bureau on May 1st, 1958, and his observations have consistently been very timely and accurate.  Local newspapers and other media use his data for the official highs and lows for the Eunice area.

Mr. Fontenot’s Cooperative Weather Station (COOP) includes the Maximum & Minimum Temperature-reporting System (MMTS), as well as a Standard Rain Gauge (SRG).

Our hats are off to Mr. Fontenot for a job well done!  We hope to have another 50 years of quality weather data from him!
