Skywarn Spotter Training and Severe Weather Safety
National
Weather Service - Lubbock, TX
|
 |
The
National Weather Service in Lubbock wishes to thank all of those involved
in a successful Skywarn Spotter - Severe Weather Training season.
The 2008
Skywarn class schedule has been completed! The training consisted
of 30 classes which were conducted across the 24 counties of the Lubbock
National Weather Service County Warning Area (CWA). The 2008 campaign
resulted in 967 people receiving training, including 225 attending
a Skywarn class for the first time. A total of 3,156 miles were traveled
by Lubbock NWS personnel in order to bring the training to all parts
of the Lubbock CWA.
If
you are interested in scheduling a Skywarn class for your group in
2009, please contact our Warning
Coordination Meteorologist (WCM) in January or February of 2009.
Skywarn
sessions from the National Weather Service provide severe weather
awareness and preparedness training to first responders (e.g., local
law enforcement; fire departments; emergency medical units; emergency
managers; local media; and amateur radio operators). Skywarn sessions
are typically held exclusive to these groups.
Severe
Weather Safety events provide useful information about the National
Weather Service - with an emphasis on weather safety.
As severe
weather awareness is important for everyone, the National Weather
Service will also make these opportunities available to the general
public.
Please
see the following table for a list of the scheduled spotter training
classes and weather safety events that were conducted in Spring of
2008.
The Blue
shaded locations and/or events are Open-To-The-Public.
