Severe Weather on May 22-25, 2008 (Pg1) |

After a couple of tornado outbreaks in early May (on the
2nd and 10th), the
weather pattern slowed down somewhat heading into mid to late May. Even
so, more
severe weather followed on the 22nd. |
| In the
picture: The satellite showed thunderstorms developing along and north
of a warm front during the evening of 05/22/2008. |
| A warm front pushed into Arkansas from the south, with
showers and thunderstorms building near the front during the late
afternoon and evening hours. |
| Scattered storms produced large hail and damaging winds
across central and southern sections of the state. |

| In the
picture: The WSR-88D (Doppler Weather Radar) showed showers and
thunderstorms building from southern into central Arkansas from 551 pm CDT
to 716 pm CDT on 05/22/2008. |
| Trees were downed a few miles west of Daisy (Pike
County), at Banks (Bradley County) and near Hot Springs (Garland County).
There was nickel size hail near Bismarck (Hot Spring County), and penny
size hail around Murfreesboro (Pike County) and Pine Ridge (Montgomery
County). |

The front pushed north of the region for the
Memorial Day weekend, with a ridge of high pressure providing above normal temperatures. |
| In the
picture: The weather pattern at 7 pm CDT on 05/24/2008...with a ridge of
high pressure building over Arkansas. Storm systems moved around the
periphery of the ridge, with severe weather mainly to the north and west
of the region. |
| While there were only small chances for precipitation,
isolated severe storms managed to pop up during the afternoon of the 24th in
southeast Arkansas. There was nickel size hail at DeWitt and Stuttgart
(both in Arkansas County). |
