Florida Region Dry Season Jet Stream Monitoring Charts

Current Jetstream Graph
Current Dry Season Chart

This graph is produced to aid in monitoring the progress of the Florida region storminess forecast during the dry season. While the jet stream strength is not specifically forecast, the jet stream has a profound influence on storminess and storminess is considered a proxy for the jet stream. These charts help illustrate the influence of the jet stream on daily and seasonal weather.

Daily mean jet stream level (250 mb) westerly wind speeds (knots) over the Florida forecast grid are plotted in red and the 30-day moving average of these daily winds are plotted in blue. The normal daily jet stream level winds are indicted by the black line.  The first dry season graph will be produced in late November once the October data is available, and will be updated around the 30th of each month through April.
