Near average month...
The Mobile Regional Airport recorded 6.11 inches of rain during
July. This total was 0.43 inches below the normal rainfall of 6.54
inches. Thirteen of July’s thirty-one days recorded measurable
rainfall. The greatest 24 hour rainfall total was 2.83 inches on the
26th and 27th. The driest July on record occurred 148 years ago, in
1860, when 1.25 inches fell. The wettest July on record occurred in
1916 when the Port City was drenched with 20.50 inches of rain. For the
year to date, Mobile has recorded 39.45 inches of rain. This is 1.31
inches below the normal amount of 40.76 expected for this time of year.
The average temperature during the month was near normal at 81.7
degrees, only 0.2 degrees above the normal of 81.5 degrees. The
warmest July on record occurred 125 years ago, in 1883, when 85.6
degrees was recorded. The coolest July was 78.7 degrees set in 1904.
The average high temperature for the month was 91.4 and the average low
temperature was 72.0. Twenty-one days in July topped the 90 degree
mark. The highest temperature of the month was 97 degrees recorded on
the 21st. The lowest temperature of the month was 67 degrees recorded
on the 1st.
Wind information for the month: The average monthly wind speed was
4.4 mph. The highest peak wind gust was 58 mph from the southeast on
the 12th as a severe thunderstorm passed the airport.
