White Christmas Climatology

Snowfall across West Central Texas is a rare event, with snowfall in December even rarer. However, most rare of all may be a white Christmas. Since 1926, San Angelo has experienced only 3 measurable snowfalls on Christmas Day, and two additional days where trace amounts were recorded. Abilene has fared similarly: Since 1914, only three measurable snowfalls and three trace snowfalls have occured on Christmas Day. In other words, a white Christmas occurs on average about once every 14 years.
